Dorian Smith, Research Associate

Dorian Smith joined the Bureau in 2018 as a Research Associate. He primarily gathers data from dozens of wood product operations in western states. Prior to joining the BBER staff, he compiled and edited nine editions of the Washington Mill Survey for Washington Department of Natural Resources between 2000 and 2016.

Dorian worked on daily and weekly newspapers in Washington for more than 10 years after earning a B.A in Journalism from the University of Washington. Besides gathering data on manufacturing of wood products, Dorian also researches and contributes to reports on economic trends and policies affecting the wood products industry. These topics range from rising housing industry costs to increased federal timber harvests for forest health and wildfire prevention.
